Abstract
It is well known that a small error in the measurement of th elastic constants will result, for all physically interesting boundary value problems, in small errors in the computed values of the stresses and displacements. In this paper actual bounds are given for the error in both the first and second boundary value problems. In addition it is shown that as Poisson's ratio tends to 1/2 the results for compressible theory tend to those for the analogous problems in the classical incompressible theory.
